Default Selling a mobile phone upgrade

Hi,

I am wondering if anyone can advise me. I recently had a mobile
upgrade to a Samsung but am very happy with the Nokia that I was using
previously. What I am considering doing is selling the Samsung upgrade
that I receieved and continuing to use the Nokia.

The problem that arises is that if I were to lose the Nokia, my service
provider would cancel the contract. Would the IMEI number on the
Samsung (which my service provider would assume I was using) then be
blocked thus blocking the phone even though I had sold it and wasn't
using it?

Any advice would be great,

Chris

If you were to lose the Nokia, your service provider wouldn't cancel
the contract - they'd make you wait the full 12 or 18 months from when
they gave you the Samsung. If you can't actually provide a phone for
that time, that's your problem.

You're right that if you phoned up and told them that you'd lost your
phone, without mentioning that you were using your SIM card in a phone
that wasn't the original contract phone, they might block the Samsung.
However, as long as you mention that it was the Nokia you'd lost, then
they'll block that instead. Probably best not to mention that you've
*sold* the Samsung, though, as operators tend not to like that sort of
thing.

So: unless you forget to tell your provider, there are no problems for
the new purchaser - but you might be stuck with several months of
contract and no way of using it without buying a new handset yourself.

I very much doubt that! They may suspend service but they won't cancel
the contract.

Yes.

They might suspend the SIM if you lost the phone with the SIM in it (unless
you want the thief / finder running you up a huge bill).

Lets suppose you drop the phone in a puddle. Just buy an el cheapo new one
or a second user phone from somone who is keeping the new phone and selling
the old one. I keep an old one and an unregistered SIM just in case.

Make sure you have the IMEI of both phones, and if you do lose it tell them
the current one.
