SIM Card Readers

I am trying to locate a SIM card reader to copy telephone numbers from my
one SIM to my computer (as a backup) and then write it to a new SIM card. I
have tried a number of different products without success.

I have a non-PC based one that copies data into its internal memory and then
writes it out, but it unfortunately it truncates all the names. I also got
a PC-based one from Aldi a while back but this only copies the first 100 (or
was it 150?) names.

I have therefore just bought a Sim Max 12-in-1 SIM card from eBay. This is
meant to do the backup as well as copy up to 12 SIM cards to one (which is
not a feature I require). I have tried this device and it fails to
recognise the majority of UK-standard SIM cards I have tried (all O2 or
Orange). In addition, when writing data to the card, it misses off the last
digit so is useless.

Does anybody know a reliable PC-based product that will work reliably on all
UK SIM cards?

This probably doesn't help but new phones usually keep the address book on
its internal memory instead of the limited storage of the SIM. You can
store the address book on a memory card which is easy to backup to PC.

I've yet to come across a phone which can store address data on a memory
card. Can you name any?

I think it's more a problem of the cards, which I think allow only basic
records such as name and one phone number (I think you need multiple entries
for multiple numbers, e.g. John home, John Work, etc.).

Me too.
I bought a DKU-5 cable to connect my NK 5140i via USB and I've tried Nokia
PC Suite and Oxygen phone manager.
The NK PC Suite worked for about 50% of the data then said 'can't connect to
the phone' whist the oxygen one wouldn't connect at all.

It's not a true Nokia cable - does that matter??

Yes it almost certainly does in your case. You take a chance with cheap
cables. I did once, never again.

So, where do I get an original Nokia one from?
Mail order preferred, I'm 'out in the sticks'!

It seems nobody has come up with a suggestion yet. As a temporary fix, I
have used a phone to copy SIM to phone and then phone to SIM but would
ideally want a proper PC SIM card reader/writer.

Sure you're not getting confused between SIM and memory card. I've only ever
seen phones that allow saving contacts to either the phone or the SIM, never
to a memory card.

Er... actually yes, I meant SIM card... sorry for the misunderstanding.
