Default Slingbox on 3

I feel I have to tell everyone how amazing this technology is. Just set
up the Slingbox that came with my X-Series Gold account and after a
little trouble configuring my router (it couldn't automatically set it
up) it's all up and running.

I've hooked it up to my Sky box and now I can watch any of the channels
on my N73 where ever I am. The video and audio quality is exceptional
and changing channels is as easy as entering the channel number on the
keypad. You can also set up shortcuts to favorite channels, but it's
easy enough to just load and browse the Sky EPG using the joystick
(although text is a little hard to read).

Just a couple of things would make it better, an option to play the
video in wide screen mode and an option to view the video stream full
screen like you can with Orb videos.

I think it's still in beta at the moment, and the website claims they
are constantly making improvements, so maybe this will be sorted out
soon. But even in its current state the whole thing works extremely well
and is well worth the money!

How does the Slingbox change the channel? Some kind of eye?

It comes with a pair IR transmitters that you can stick to the top of
the box. You configure the application to tell it what the Slingbox is
controlling, such as Sky, DVD, Freeview etc.. and what the model is so
it knows what codes to transmit.

I've been itching to get an X-series phone since they came out, but have
been waiting for the K950i, because it's got a bigger screen.

I've also just discovered that the software constantly communicates the
upload and download speed of the stream to the Slingbox. This means it
automatically compensates the compression rate depending on the quality
of the connection. If I view it on the PC over the local network with a
high bandwidth I get excellent picture quality. When I watch it on the
N73 you can tell that it has a greater compression, but it's not a
problem because the screen is smaller so it still looks great. You
sometimes notice the compression rate changing slightly as you watch so
that it maintains the stream. I've not been using it for long, but I
haven't had it lose the stream at all yet which is quite encouraging.

Yep, ain't Slinging brilliant I haven't got an X-Series so have just
been using it on PCs but the beta-test on Palm OS is launching soon so
looking forward to trying it out on my Palm TX via WiFi.

Cheers

Alan
