Default Switching line from ntl to BT, cancellations, aghh!

We've decided to switch our line from NTL to BT. We'd ideally like to
keep the same number.

We called BT yesterday and arranged for an engineer to come out (16th
Feb). After that was done, the operator told us that we needed to call
NTL and give them our "30 day notice" to cancel the line from them.

I called NTL today (closed yesterday) and they said our services would
end on the 22nd Feb.

I realised that there might be a problem as BT were coming out earlier
than that, and called them to ask if there was anything I should do and
how it all works.

The guy from BT said that I shouldn't have given NTL the 30 day notice
(??), that I should phone them back and revoke it - as BT arrange for
the number to be switched over and the cancelling of the account. He
said that as there's a "stop" which has been put on the phone line
account, BT therefore cannot contact them to switch it over.

I'm not sure about this, can anyone tell me how it normally works? We
got specifically told to give NTL our 30 days notice, then get told
that we shouldn't have done that.. Gah!

Thanks for any help
Rachel.

Give NTL (150) a ring to revoke your cancellation, then ring BT to
advise them to go ahead, BT will give you a temp number for a few days
(until the NTL 30 notice is served), then BT will transfer your number.

If you need any help, mail me mate.
