As per the subject line..How is T-Mobile's coverage now?
I've used a variety of networks over the last few years, Voda O2 and 3..but
curiously, never T-Mobile. Probably because back in the Mercury days, the
coverage rarely penetrated buildings successfully!
I recently ported 2 phones back from 3 to O2..mainly due to the tariff on
offer - 18month O2 £35 Anytime plan with Long Weekend.
600 mins per month anytime, any network
100 free text messages (can also be used for MMS)
400 free text messages as a special bonus (can also be used for MMS)
Free Calls Saturday, Sunday and Monday
I was quite happy with this, until I saw the T-Mobile Flex-T plans..which
seem more flexible.
Tomorrow is the 13th day of my 14 days..so if I'm going to change..it's
going to have to be a quick decision.
Coverage is very important..as is international roaming capability. One
thing that has disappointed me with O2 (and I should have checked earlier)
is one of my favourite holiday destinations - Cyprus, has no GPRS roaming
agreement with O2!
I'm also concerned as to what is likely to happen if I do cancel the O2
contract. My numbers have been ported from 3 and it took 10 days. If I
cancel and request a PAC..does this mean I am going to be incommunicado for
10 days whilst the number is ported to T-Mobile?? If so..that alone may be
a showstopper.
Lastly, is there any way to check bundled minutes on T-Mobile? This was
available on 3 and I really miss it with O2?

I've been with T-Mobile for more years than I care to remember. Coverage
is generally fine in urban areas, but if you get out into the hills
falls off quite rapidly. (eg. coverage is excellent in Lampeter, but 4
miles out of Lampeter it drops off and I don't get a signal for another
20-odd miles)

I have a virgin connection, which uses T-mobile's network. I am not
too happy with it. Somerset west of the M4 is very patchy, Burnham to
Brean is completely blank. Similar problems in the Quantocks. They
have a semi-interactive coverage map on the web site, but it is
over-optimistic.
In the centre of Plymouth you get a signal but no calls. Texts and
voicemail pop up as you move toward Devonport or the A38. I have tried
reporting this but neither Virgin nor T-mobile appear to have any
concept of a system fault, asking me to try another handset, as if my
handset knows where I am standing. My company phone is T-mobile, and
exhibits the same performance.
I don't go to London or Birmingham, but have found huge patches without
coverage in the cotswolds and up the Fosse way.
In Leicstershire things are good, in Lincolnshire only fair to good.
The patches of low coverage are only a mile or so across, but they are
there. Cambridgeshire seems OK. Humberside too. Aberdeen and
Edinburgh are fine, but on the train in between I had problems getting
a signal except in towns.

Where did I say I expected it to be worse than 3???
Why are you quoting frequencies? That's only half the story...probably less
important than cell site locations
I am just after real-world comments on what the T-Mobile service is like
nowadays.
If you don't know, then please don't confuse matters with distracting
responses

For me, where I live (outskirts of North Leeds), T-Mobile gives by far
the best coverage, and these days I never seem to be without a usable
signal. Orange only works upstairs and Voda is very variable too. Not
sure about O2. Obviously that's just because of where I live & travel,
other people will have different experiences and many would find that a
different provider is more suitable. Horses for courses and all that...
On my tariff I can call 150 and find out how many minutes I have left. I
believe on the Flex tariffs T-Mobile send a text once a week detailing
how much allowance you have left, not sure if the 150 service also works
on Flex.
I also find that customer services are quick to answer and generally
helpful, which comes as something of a surprise given how bad these
companies can be!

Arrogant twat. Of course I don't know. No-one could. The coverage
varies from place to place, and the only way to know if it is any good
where you are is to follow you and see where you go each day. Judging
by your response, you are not a person I'd enjoy the company of, so
there is zilch chance of that.
I know what the respective network coverage patterns are where I go,
but that's no use to you.

What a pompous wanker you are!!
Of course I didn't expect people to be able to tell me about my exact
location you fuckwit..
As I said..which was clearly too intellectual for an ameoba like you to
comprehend..I was looking for real-world opinions as to the service and
coverage.
Clearly you live in some sort of asylum and as such..I couldn't give a
flying fuck about *your* opinion!!
Now run along like a good little gimp and annoy someone else!

I'd concur with Andy, at least, I'm in the same broad area (York, Leeds and
the area around). I've found T-Mobile to have a "robust" signal, matched by
Vodafone. Orange, sadly, has gone a little pear shaped in the general
location. I frequent Lincolnshire, Scotland, heh I travel about a fair bit.
Now there are patches of poor signal... but in my experience it's just the
same with Vodafone or Orange (I've not used O2 since they were Cellnet heh),
just in slightly different locations. My Mum's village in Lincolnshire used
to get great Orange reception but a mast appears to have been shut down or
turned down, now the signal is good only if you stand like a stork holding
your finger in your ear... T-Mobile's signal is okay.
Mind you, much of the above is at least *partially* linked to the handset.
Although I don't use it for other reasons, my Motorola V635 seemed to get a
decent signal almost anywhere. A pity that even with the best signal the
Bluetooth headset voice quality is suspect!
