Default T-Mobile - strange text roaming charges

I was just looking at T-mobile website for charges from abroad (Zone 1
Europe)

Text Message to UK - 40p
Picture Text Message to UK - 20p

How would a picture message be cheaper when it would actually be more data
being shifted across the network?

Is this an advertising mistake or is it real?

It's probably because T-Mobile know that more people are going to send plain
text messages than picture messages. It's known as supply & demand (or for
its more informal name "being ripped off").

Can I add text to a picture message? If so then that would be the cheapest
option.

Picture messages use GPRS so the actual transport mechanism isn't the
same, thus that's the reason why the prices are different. No idea
whether the price different reflects the actual cost difference.
