My husband has a Nokia 6300 on the Tesco Pay as you Go network. Every time
he sends a txt he gets another txt back to tell him his balance. Is there
any way of turning off the Notification sound as it's quite irritating. You
could put up with the message each time so long as it didn't have the sound
with it.

That turns off all message Alert Tones though I just want to be able to stop
the alert from Tesco telling us what the balance is after every text sent.

I know that on O2 you have to ring up customer services and ask them to
turn off balance notifications, as Tesco use the O2 network I think they
could do the same.

Yes they can. I did it by phoning CS at Tesco mobile and it's as simple
as that.

On some phones you can set a custom ringtone for certain numbers, not
sure if you can for texts. If you can, maybe you could store the number
it is sent from as a contact then edit the alert tones for that contact.
Recently I had to move from Tesco because where we now live only has
Voda signal so I called for a PAC. Their CS people were spectacularly
straightforward and helpful, one of the best I have dealt with, so you
should be able to phone them with confidence.

The balance alert isn't a text, it's some kind of network message. It
doesn't get stored in the inbox - as soon as you view it, it's gone.
There's no number or other metadata associated with it (that my phone shows,
anyway).

I have dealt with them before and they are excellent.

Same here I wanted the unlock code for a handset, and they provided it
for free. But it didn't unlock the phone.
They were very helpful on the phone, but no joy. So they said it'll
have to be sent to them to be unlocked: they will do it for free and
refund the postage.
As it happens, I decided not to bother: a $3 unlocker shim thing under
the sim works fine. But they were really helpful.
It seems a shame not to stick with them really, but Asda is so much
cheaper for that phone's pattern of use.

Ah, I will have to agree there. Toothblue on the 6310i definitely
leaves something to be desired - audio quality is carp (damn by
lysdexic keybrod again!)

ToothBlue was much improved on last 6310i Firmware versions,
so if not at least ver 5.1 get it firmware reflashed by a Club Nokia centre
Mention you want it done under club Nokia guarantee as all but last
firmware version isn't fit for use, due to blueback vulnerability,
which last version cures.
If you have poor sound quality you may have a faulty earpiece,
have it replaced.

My phone has 5.52 and I'm using either a Jabra or a Nokia
earpiece - and the receive audio is horrible (noisy and
distorted) on both. I also have a cigarette lighter plug-in unit
with an external mic and that is the same. However the person at
the other end reports the transmit audio from me is fine.
And this is with at least three different 6310i's!!
A colleague had a 6310i then a 3109 and they were equally as bad
as each other. She now has a Blackberry and that is as clear as a
bell.
