Default Tesco Mobile in Spain

Just returned from a week in northern Spain (the green, wet area) and found
that my Tesco mobile would not make outgoing calls or send texts despite my
receiving a text as soon as I landed saying that calls would cost 40p per
minute. I was able to receive calls and texts fine.

Whenever I tried to make a call I got a voice message in English saying
"This option is not available. Please contact our customer care services."
The network (which had good coverage) was Movistar.

Anyone else had a similar experience, or has any one been able to use Tesco
in Spain?

Thanks Jon, but I tried that.

I also tried 0044 and 044 dropping the zero each time. The Tesco Mobile
website does say that this is NOT required for UK numbers but I tried it
anyway. The website says that the top up numbers would also work but they
didn't.

Anyone else any ideas?

The "Standard" tariff with 3 half-price favourite numbers. I realise that I
wouldn't have been be able to use Tesco Mobile overseas if I had been on the
"Value" tariff.

Attempts to use Vodafone ES produced a "failed" report and calls attempted
through Amena resulted in a voice message inviting me to contact Orange for
a subscription!

Movistar is not included in the Tesco list of service providers in
Spain, Did you try any others?

I also tried Vodafone ES and Amena (a.k.a France Telecom Espana SA a.k.a
Orange) when they were available.

Movistar is actually included in the the Tesco list of service providers but
under it's full name of Telefónica Móviles España, S.A.

I was working a lot in Spain over the last year (Barcelona) and had no
problem with Tesco mobile.

Tangentially, I was in Riga, Latvia last week, and according to the
website, my phone wouldn't work there. I certainly couldn't make
outgoing calls, but I received a few, and was charged for them.

You don't have to do that with Tesco. Instructions are to dial as if in
the UK, i.e. 01234567890.
