I have a Samsung phone, I'm afraid I don't know the model (about 2
years old). I think it was an older version of the S300, but no colour
screen. My contract is with a UK provider: Vodafone.

Most of the basic Nokia phones I have seen have a 'use detail' feature
in the menu after a text is received. Phone numbers can then be stored
using the menu that follows this.

It's called business card or vCard, and is more commonly done over text
rather than email. Typically the receiver of a vcard will be given
options like "store", "discard" etc.

How would i synchronise the phone? What software and hardware would be
needed?

Motorola provide a CD which contains the software, and a cable to
connect phone to computer.
I think the other manufacturers do too and that these would be included
in the package of higher end phones than I have.
Microsoft Outlook might be the sort of software to enable this.

If you have a Windows PC:
- Go to the support page of your your phone on the manufacturer's web site.
See if they offer a PC software that you can download to synchronize your
phone with Outlook or other similar software. If they do, download, install
it and reboot your PC as required. If they don't, you're out of luck.
- Add all your contacts to Outlook
- If you've got a USB cable, plug your phone to the PC, wait a few minutes
for Windows to recognize your phone and install all the drivers, launch the
synchronization software, follow the instructions. If you don't have a USB
cable and have to use bluetooth, all I can do is wish you good luck.
If you have a Mac:
- go there <http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/isync/devices.html> to see
if your phone is supported by iSynch. If it's not, you're out of luck.
- Add your contacts to AddressBook
- Switch on bluetooth on your phone and your Mac, launch iSync on your Mac,
click Synchronize, you're done.

For Dialstation we are able to send contacts to Nokia Mobile phones
using the Nokia vCard format. This is supported by almost all Nokia
phones, but hardly any others, unfortunately.
http://www.dialstation.com
- International calling from your mobile phone.
- Requires no special software to use, just your phone.
- First call free, no sign up, just call!
