Default a text from orange - real or fake ?

today i received a text from 'upgrdcentre'
it says orange customer, you may now claim your FREE CAMERA PHONE upgrade
for your loyalty, call now on 0207 153 9996.
offer ends 21st march.

from your no doubt greater experience than mine, does that sound genuine? -
or some kind of spam from a non orange related company.

and if it is real, is it a ploy to tie you into a longer contract ?

thanks - first spam i've had on this number - that's a little worrying -
hopefully the porn spams you get charged for won't follow as with my last
orange number.

Yes.

I've had a few of these. When I tell them I'm on PAYG they lose interest...

As with caller id, the origin of an sms can be spoofed and so you
shouldn't put too much trust in it.

It's a real text allright, but it's not from Orange. Best not to reply
or contact them.

Any offer of a new handset will always extend your contract.

They have their phone numnber displayed wrong, so couldn't be a decent
telco, they'd know their number would be displayed as 020 7153 nnnn if
they were decent.

Only useful for premium rate services. In this case replying could cause
more harm than good.

Go into your MMS settings and choose "disallow adverts".
