Thinking about using phone as MP3 player through car stereo

Anyone else doing this?

Using Nokia 6300 ' s with 2GB memory cards we want to play the music
through the car(s)' stereo(s).

Are in-built car kits missing a trick by not doing this? Or do they do
it?

One solution I've come across is to buy a cradle (I've just bought one
off ebay that has a speaker and a mic, and is a bit of a 'half way
house' car kit - ie. its phone specific but can be plugged into the
fag lighter), and then wire an FM transmitter into this. That way all
the sound will be wired through eg. 107.9FM. I could leave the mic
alone.

I'm not sure about if the car stereo could be used for phone calls -
(echos/duplexing) but I could always try it out add a switch to switch
back to the cradle's speaker.

It seems such an obvious requirement, but I haven't seen it mentioned
anywhere.

I have used both a cassette adapter and a line in (on different vehicles)
with the Nokia AD-46 adapter. This has a 3.5mm output and contains a
microphone and a button to answer/end calls. I have also used a Parrot
bluetooth kit - my current one doesn't support stereo A2DP but later ones
do. This hijacks the car's front speakers for playback and phone calls,
muting the car radio if it is on. Hope that helps.
