Default Truphone attacks Orange for crippling their phones by removing VoIP features

Hi,

Interesting piece of news in the Register today: Truphone, a company
supplying VoIP services for Symbian smartphones, has lodged a complaint
with OFCOM against Orange's crippling of their phones:
Orange, as some here already found out, is deliberately disabling the
built-in VoIP features of some of the smartphones they sell (namely the
Nokia E61 and N95).

I'm trying a new usenet client for Mac, Nemo OS X.
You can download it at http://www.malcom-mac.com/nemo

Someone posted on here that Vodafone UK have also made this
modification, I hope Truphone are taking that into account also.

Just read the bit that says:

Beaumont said: "It opens up a another can of words, really. Nokia won't
be very happy supplying a phone to the networks that then had its
functionality limited."

It's Nokia that make the modifications to the software prior to shipping
to the network! It's not like Nokia don't know what's going on.
