Default UK iPhone users - what is the deposit if you don't have a credit rating here?

So what if you just immigrated from south africa or australia and have
been living in london for just a few weeks

once u buy the iphone and take it home & connect it to itunes it takes
you to 02 servers where you have to give it your bank account details
etc.

does anyone know what the deposit is? they say they refund it to you
after a few months, but only if you pay all your bills on time.

Never mind, I am sure you will be able to afford one when you grow up.
Maybe Father Christmas will get you one.

So what happens if you fail the credit check? In the US I uderstand that
AT&T put you on some sort of PAYG plan.

Depends how bad your credit rating is;
Sometimes the provider will point blank refuse to sign you up.
Or, they'll want a refundable deposit.
