Default Un-locking a SE K800i

Hi I have had my SE K800i unlkocked at a local phone accessory shop
which was originally on Vodafone. After they had un-locked it they
told me not to update the phone and they had turned off the update
feature.
Have they given me the correct info or a load of rubbish, and if it
was updated what effect would it have on the un-locked phone.
It is to be used on Orange
TIA
Regards
Tony

I'd hazard a guess it would put the lock back on.

doug:
There's a way to unlock some SE phones on the cheap by uploading a
custom firmware. Obviously if a new non-modified firmware is
installed, e.g. through upgrading, then the unlocking would be undone.

Doing it this way is cheaper and easier than full unlocking, which
would survive a firmware upgrade, but I'd suggest it's dishonest.

Compare on here: "patch unlock" (patching the firmware) vs "unlock"
(doing it properly). the latter takes a lot more effort, and a lot
more money as a result. https://davinciteam.com/buycredits.html?pro=uk
