Unlock TMobile MDA Vario 2

My friend has a TMobile MDA Vario 2.
She would like to use it overseas but it is locked. Is there a way to
unlock it (free would be nice, if possible)?
I think I read about a "developer something" to do with Varios and
unlocking them but can't remember what it is.
Anyone able to assist with (correct) info and any links for help.
