Default Unlocked iPhone 3G offer

Is there anything I should be aware of before taking up this offer:
http://www.iphone-3g-99.info/uk/index.html ?

I have been wanting an iPhone to use on the 3 network, but from what I
have read unlocking a locked phone in software has disadvantages such
as you can't upgrade the operating system. So this looks like exactly
what I have been waiting for.

I have registered with the site and received an email to say a phone
has been reserved for me and I will be contacted for payment within 14
days.

Looks dodgy beyond belief tbh - I wouldn't touch it with your bargepole.

YMMV.

Bankrupt stock, wait for delivery, and be given a specific time to pay, so
everyone pays in the same 24 hour period, PayPal payment only, no contact
telephone number, limited stock of 99 units, but you can reserve up to 10
units if you want to, missing 'Sale of Goods Act' information in the
guarantee section, would I go for this offer, no chance.

"Ireland's #1 Independant" doesn't exactly inspire confidence either :-)

BTW, how did you link the two? The original domain whois led to a private
individual's .co.uk IIRC.

pretty sure play.com sells unlocked iphones - i'd wager they were more
trustworthy than the above.

And for 600 quid so they should be. There's an eBay seller in Hong
Kong selling a black 3G 16GB for £383.50 + £7 shipping. If you Google
"sim free iphone" then there is also an ad from an outfit called
Gcomltd.co.uk offering unlocked 3Gs for £399.

This offer is so much cheaper than anything else it does look too good
to be true, but if a lot of people get ripped off, PayPal will just
freeze their account, surely? Of course, they might propose some other
dodgy method of payment, in which case it could be an elaborate
phishing attempt.

Meanwhile, at the uk.telecom.mobile Job Justification Hearings, tech-pro.net
chose the tried and tested strategy of:

OK let's say you had 100 phones with a market value of about [does a google
product search] £5-600 each. Why would you choose to make thousands of pounds
less than you could, and risk ringing a great big alarm bell marked 'SCAM
ALERT'? It's not like it's hard to sell the most over-hyped handset of all time,
is it? And why would you choose to exclude people who hadn't made it onto your
'reservation list'? Surely all you're going to do is turn away customers for no
good reason?

The trouble is, if everyone has to pay on the same day, and an expected
delivery time is given as say, 3 weeks after payment, this could give plenty
of time for the money to clear, and be transferred out, before alarm bells
would start ringing if the goods didn't arrive. If it looks too good to be
true............

Even if this is a scam and you buy with Paypal, doesn't that mean you
are covered by Paypal and you will get your money back?

I have registered with these guys too whilst I did a bit of research.
However I will NOT be taking up the offer as I think the chances are
that it is a scam. The company (Irelands number 1 independent phone
retailer) were only set up in August this year, They give contact
details, but next to their phone number it states 'our phone lines are
very busy'' I.e. "You have no chance of getting through because we
wont be there".
Also this is what Paypal say for buyer protection on purchases outside
of Ebay: "When you pay with PayPal on any website, we can help protect
your purchase. PayPal's Buyer Complaint Policy covers goods that are
purchased and not delivered, but it's important to note that even if
the claim is justified, you'll only receive a recovery if there are
funds in the seller's account"
So as commented above, if everyone pays on the same day, by the time
you know you've been scammed they will have scarpered with the cash =
no refund.
I would advise to leave this one alone.
BTW, they have but the price up to €285 from €249 as well!

It appears to be the same company as blackberry-bargains.ie. I looked
at that site I don't see anything fishy there. The contact number has
the same statement against it but that might just be because it is the
same number as for ordering the Blackberry phones.
