Unlocking S/E M600i

I am looking at buying a second hand Sony Ericsson M600i on Ebay and a
lot of them seem to be Orange. No problem with the Orange branding on
the outside but wondered if these can be easily (and freely?) unlocked
at home using a USB cable, or do they need sending away?

Any tips would be appreciated.
