Sorry to bother the group with an unlocking question, but this one has
stumped me.
I'm trying to unlock a Nokia 3310 for a friend, which he assures me was
bought from Virgin. I successfully removed the first lock and received the
'phone restriction off' message.
I then calculated the second code using Virgin's GID1 of 2800, but received
the 'SIM not restricted' message - I assume this means that the second lock
was not on. However, the phone still give a 'SIM card not accepted' message
when an Orange SIM card is inserted.

You used to have to call Orange to get a new SIM activated. I don't know
whether that's still the case or not. Does it work in another phone?

No, it's a valid, currently working Orange SIM. But thanks for the reply!

I bought a "Virgin" phone deal once from Carphone Warehouse but it
turned out that it wasn't really a "Virgin" phone but probably a
T-Mobile. In the end I complained to the head office at Virgin and
they arranged a replacement phone from CW.
HTH. You may get some mileage from using unlock codes available on
the net (just google).

It's still locked. Code 5 is the one the use if you've used a code
generator.

Thanks Jon - but I've not found a single DCT-3 code generator that can give
code 5 - they just give 1 and 2.

This should be achievable using codes alone, so why pay someone else to do
it?

This site only offers code 1 - which I have already used successfully - they
don't even calculate GID1.

I was going to start a new thread but I came across this old one when
I did a search. Basically I have come across the same problem having
entered code 1 and 2 and then getting the 'sim restriction off'
message. It was originally locked to vodafone so I tried an O2 and
then a virgin sim neither of which worked. The mobile still does not
accept non vodafone sims.
Did anyone find a solution to this or is my 3310 a liar?

You should always use code 7 from the free code unlockers as this is the
brute force unlock that unlocks all the locks.

There's nothing brute-force about it. It's simply a code that works on
locks 1-4 at the same time.

You can unlock handsets from Vodafone directly.
To do this they need the make and model of handset (your account
details to register the request against) and the handset IMEI.
When the handset is less than 12 months old a charge of £19.99 will
apply, if the handset is over 12 months old this would be free.
