Default Unlocking Vodafone Nokia 100

Argos have a great deal right now - Nokia 100 phone at 9 (and mandatory Voda starter top-up at 10).

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produc...uctInformation

In the Q&A someone asks:

Have got the vodka phone 100 mobile as a present as my old lg phone of manyyears standing is going downhill fast.I don't need a smartphone ,the technology is way over my head,so a barebones basic like this is grand .i have agood deal with 02 and don't want to change provider. Can I put my 02 simcard in this phone as all details are stored on it,my grandchildren say I might have to get it "unlocked" ,whatever that is .please advise as I don't want to muck anything up.thank you.

Hi, thank you for your question.

Having looked into this for you, I can confirm that the Vodafone Nokia 100 Mobile Phone - Grey is locked to the Vodafone network, this means you will not be able to use a O2 SIM card with this phone.

OK - so after using the Vodafone top-up, I would then want to put my Giffgaff SIM card into it. So the question to ask is: Is it possible to unlock the Nokia 100, and if so how please?

Many thanks - Chris B.

You can unlock it yourself via the keyboard. Just Google 'Unlock
Nokia 100' and you will find a shed-load of information.

Note that when you get the code you will actually get about eight
ending #1 through #8. Generally with Nokia you only need to use
the code ending #5 or #7 as these are concatenations of the other
codes.

Alternatively go for a trudge around your local Tesco shed as
they often sell off unlocked phones. Also go dig on Amazon where
you will find you can get modern unlocked simple phones of the
type you want but with useful additions like Bluetooth, MP3
player (on a micro SD card) and FM radio (OK, maybe no so useful)
for around 30.

You mention you have grandchildren so does that imply a silver
surfer? If so consider getting one of the Doro range - can be had
for 40 from Carphone Warehouse unlocked. They have hearing aid
couplers, loud audio, loud rings, a large clear simple display,
and a panic button. They also have the advantage of being a
clam-shell type which not only means you cannot accidently make
calls but it places the mic near the mouth which significantly
improves the audio quality and level at the recipient end. Some
versions also have Bluetooth.

It's extremely possible that Vodafone are subsidising this offer (so
that Argos can sell it so cheap), but only pay Argos if the phone at
some stage actually appears on their network[1]. Hence Argos force-feed
customers with the compulsory top-up to help ensure that the phone is
indeed used on the Vodafone network and that Vodafone then send Argos
the subsidy payment.

Argos are therefore unlikely to encourage anyone to unlock the phone,
rather than have them use it on Vodafone for at least that first 10
worth.

It may nevertheless be possible to unlock it.

[1] In the past there have been mass grey exports of subsidised phones
which loses the UK network money.
