(Sorry if this comes up twice..the first attempt didn't seem to appear)
Is it possible for a text message to be unread in the inbox, but with
no 'you have a new text message' showing on the main window? I'll
explain the scenario...
My girlfriend found a text on my phone that I hadn't read. It was from
a female work colleague and was meant as a joke. I, truthfully, denied
having seen it, and g/f says I must have, so I am lying.
I seem to remember it happening in the past that if there are two texts
waiting to be read there is a message 'you have 2 new text messages',
and that if I read only one of them, the message doesn't come back with
'you have one new message.' (although it does show as unread in the
inbox, which with my eyesight I could miss anyway!)
Anyone help me out here? The phone is a Nokia 6170 on a Vodafone
contract.

This is how they work on all my phones, even if there are 3, 4, 5 new
messages, once you press the button to look at one of them, the rest
remain unread in the in box and the "You have new messages" message
disappears, even if you didn't read all of them.

If you are going to do the time, you might aswell do the crime.

Although the envelope icon remains visible. The next new message that
arrives would yield the "You have x new messages" again, where x would
equal previously unread messages plus new message.
