Default Use a Flat 12 sim in a Skypephone 2?

I've been using a Flat 12 PAYG sim card in a dongle on 3, but I
recvently bought a Skypephone 2. Of course, this came on 3PAY, which
is 20p per minute, instead of Flat 12's 12p or less per minute.

So the idea was to put the Flat12 sim card into the Skypephone. But
it's not that easy! Although the phone connects tot hwe internet just
fine with the flat12 sim in it, trying to make a call (even a free
skpye call) gets a message telling me that I need to go to a 3 store
and get my sim replaced for free.

What isn't made clear is whether this will force me to move to 3pay,
or risk losing the credit on the sim.

Three have a "live help" chat facility, so I thought I'd ask them
there, but no, they tell me that is only for contract queries, not
PAYG ones.

Has anyone else hit this snag? What happened?

Just tried it with a different Flat12 sim and that works just fine. So
maybe my other sim really is just a bit too old. Can't remember how
long I've had it, or where it come from.

AFAIK unused Flat 12 sims being connected now will give that message
Flat 12 has been ringfenced without warning
I guess 3 figured that Stretch 20 / 25 was costing them too much in
cross net connection charges

I have one i registered about a year ago which still works on Flat 12 /
stretch
my others like the one i'm using to send this are on 3Pay

I'm not too upset, for my calls / text i got a good triple cashback deal
on Orange Racoon 30 / e2save / quidco

This one isn't unused, though: it's been in daily use for months, in a
dongle.

The 3Pay sim will be unused when the included £10.22 credit has been
used up: I can't see any benefit in 3pay - I don't call anyone on 3,
ever.

Though for dongle use, I don't suppose it matters either way.

I don't understand why Three have cancled your valid ringfenced Flat 12?
Call Three CS and complain.
(i wonder if Three have a 6 month chargeable voice call requirement?)

Just checked my Flat 12 and it's fine

3Pay has proved very useful for the wife to talk at me anytime
for as long as she likes ;-(
It's ideal for family or closed groups

Except on 3pay you get 150Mb to use up before buying an
internet add on

Last year I went for 9 months without using my pair of 3 SIMs at
all. Both worked fine when we got around to trying them again, with
all the credit intact.

I think I read in the 3 T&Cs that they could cancel them after an
unspecified period of non-use but, at least last year, that period
was longer than 9 months.

It hadn't been cancelled - still does data as well as ever. It just
can't make voice calls. But my other Flat 12 sim is fine for voice of
data, so I just swapped them over.

Guess the problematic sim is too old, or is faulty.
