Default using American Palm Treo 600 with O2 sim card

I am considering purchasing a second hand Palm Treo 600. It was bought
in USA and was used on Verizon network. Its owner has used it here
with Orange. Therefore he thinks it is unlocked. I would like to use
it with my O2 payg sim card ,will this be possible?

Many thanks

Matthew

I believe that the Verizon Treo 600 was only released in CDMA. see
http://www.palm.com/us/support/handb...verizon_DS.pdf
and:

I have a suspicion that the owner was using their US SIM card and roaming
while in the UK.

If the phone is CDMA then you defnitely won't be able to use it with O2 or
any other GSM network.

If the phone is a GSM model (I doubt it) then it is probably locked. However
you are in luck as there is a free unlock available for the Treo 600 at
http:\\mytreo.net.

Sorry,

The second link should be
http://kb.palmone.com/SRVS/CGI-BIN/W...Case=obj(28981)

(note that the link may wrap)

Darn Outlook express. For some reason it is not including the ending ")" in
the hypertext formatting of the link above

I'm afraid you'll need to add the end ")" to the link after you've clicked
it, or you can physically cut and paste it into your browser.

If it's a CDMA-only phone then it couldn't even roam on any UK network.

Hmm...in that case then the phone is definitely GSM and most likely
unlocked.

I know that Verizon eventually supported GSM but I thought that was after
the Treo 600 time.

Verizon is a CDMA carrier. And their palm phone (I think it's 650 and
700) will not work in the UK. Now, cingular also has the same palm and
cingular is a GSM network. Could it be that the phone was actually a
cingular phone. Also, Verizon has a couple of CDMA/GSM samsung phones
in their lineup. These phones have only the 900/1800 GSM bands. And are
locked AFAIK.

So, I am 100% sure that treo could not have been used on verizon and
also used in the UK. Looks like there is some missing information
somewhere.

Treo 600 GSM (cingular/Tmobile):

Treo 600 CDMA (Verizon):
