I occasionally use my laptop out and about, and have used GPRS to get me
online in remote areas. Orange's Orange World Access Daily PAYG bundle
(usually) works just fine for me.
It is, however, a bit of a faff. To cut a long story short, I didn't
find having to carry a second phone, do lots of SIM swapping, and use a
bluetooth dongle a very satisfactory way of working.
So to simplify things, I treated myself to a Vodafone GPRS data card, so
I could leave that in the lappy, with my PAYG SIM card in place and not
have to worry about second phones, SIM swapping, chargers, cables,
dongles and the like.
So I plugged it in, set it up and it works a treat.
For GPRS data.
So, now I want to set up my £1 a day bundle and/or check my balance and
I can't see how to do that without taking the data card out, putting the
SIM into a phone and using that, then putting the SIM back into the data
card.
Surely there's an easier way?
Can I set up the bundle by SMS? Sending WORLD 1 to 6601 doesn't appear
to work :-(
Can I run a phone application to use the data card as though it were a
phone? I suspect not :-(
I suppose I can check my balance on the web and top up on the web (if I
have credit) , but would rather know my balance before I start.
So much for simplifying my life...

I have a Vodafone PAYT datacard. What £1 a day bundle? Didn't know Vodafone
did one.

I'm using an Orange PAYG SIM in a Vodafone datacard
As it turns out, sending WORLD 1 to 6601 does work, it just takes a
loooong time to set it up - the SIM saying it was activated came back 2+
hours later, so using it needs a bit of forward planning
