Default what is wrong with this phone?

Hi,
My sony ericsson S500i is possessed. It seems as if the number 8 key is
stuck down, or being repeatedly pressed for a few minutes at a time. As I
write it is cycling through my contacts list for 8 T U and V (the characters
on the number 8 key). It has not been exposed to liquid, the key does not
seem to be stuck down.

Now since I pressed backspace to get to the first screen, the number 8 is
appearing on the screen, 88888, five 8s this time but earlier it kept going
for minutes.I'll be returning it to the store later today, but I just wonder
if anyone elase has had this problem.

cheers
cw

yeah, thanks for a link to the picture of a bin.

It was real frosty here last night, I am thinking that maybe it was too cold
for the phone, it seems to have recovered.

Yes highly, especially if you went out in the cold and then went into the
warm of the house. Condensation can build up inside the phone, so in effect
you phone was exposed to liquid. Hope it keeps working.....

update:
The problems returned next morning.
We took the phone back the O2 store, they said "update the software via the
website". I did this, and if anything the problem is worse, even now at
midday I answered a call from the phone and all you can hear is beep, beep ,
beepbeep as it dials 88 over and over. So now the store want to send the
phone to Ericsson for repair, 10 days they say ...
