The bass rendition must be marvellous.
But it won't be. In headphones the waves are essentially inserted directly
into the ear canals - dispersion and loss are minimal, and so the size of
the transponder (speaker) is not very important.
OTOH for a loudspeaker the wavelength is many times the size of the
transponder for bass and the output suffers - this is why decent room
speakers are large.

So for the purposes of a voice podcast (rather than for dancing to on
a packed dance floor) the iPhone is fine. Which is what the OP said.

I really hate people that try to listen to music in the queue at Tesco - so
common. Tinny, nasty, distorted audio from tiny phone speakers. It annoys
everyone else.

Well gee - thank you for giving the rest of us permission to use it that
way.

Well not quite, until after it was pointed out the sound would be hopeless
and tinny for music, unless I am missing something and podcasts aren't
normally music...

I can't think on any music podcasts actually. All are voice. I
thought peeps couldn't podcast music cos of copyright law and stuff
like that (I'm not including crappy independent 'podsafe' music - I'm
talking about real music that people pay actual money to go see)

So the N82 has stereo speakers? How far apart are they? Surely only a matter
of a few inches.
Can you actually get any sort of stereo image from speakers that are so
close together??
