I came on here recently and their seems to be a constant battle judging
by the previous posts over the last few months from someone calling
himslef Stefan and someone called Ivor Jones, their also seems to be
someone called Dexter involved as well, I have to say its all rather
petty,if Ivor works for Sipgate so what, i am lead to believe this from
reading previous posts from Stefan and Dexter,Ivor also seemns to have
a probem with people posting adverts about things, why is this a
problem , i havent seen anyone esle complain about them,i guess Ivor is
another of those strange breed of net addicts who only say and do what
they do because they havent got the balls to say it in real life.
For what its worth i agree with most of what Dexter and Stefan have
said, although some of Stefans actiosn have been over the top.
Now lets stopall tis bickering and Ivor stop telling people what they
can and cant do, this is a PUBLIC group NOT amoderated one so people
will post as they see fit.
I am entitled to my opinion as well Ivor so please dont shoot me down
in flames for speaking my mind,i appreciate most of what you say on
here as it has been invaluable to me in my learning curve on the voip
product.

Hi Methcrystalpower ..
There is a bunch of idiots in here (see http://uncyclopedia.org/wiki/Idiot for definition of idiot) that use
this forum for their own private pissing contests. In between their
regurgitations there is some good stuff to be found in this NG, so the
best thing is to ignore the wankers. In other words : don't feed the
trolls (if you don't know what i'm speaking about see http://members.aol.com/intwg/trolls.htm

Posting adverts is a problem because the charter for this newsgroup
prohibits it.

Where an offer to buy, say, or a link to a site selling is included, or
the poster of the message is likely to benefit financially directly. Links
to items for sale on eBay should not really be posted, for example.
I can say I recommend Sipgate because (despite rumours to the contrary..!)
I do *not* work for them. However if I have something for sale or know of
someone who does, it would not be appropriate.

Ivor, by recommending sipgate you are advertising their services.
Getting a new user to use a service can only ever make them money! If
for example you get a PAYG sim for free, but only use it for incoming
calls then the network still make money.
The recommendation i made was just that! I have no connection with
O'Reilly and so stand to make no financial gain. To me i feel that the
meaning behind 'advertisement' & 'recommendation' are very hard to
distinguish.. Therefore i feel that your actions not only led to the
thread being thrown OT but also upset that was not needed.
So Ivor, please step down from the moderator's position and allow the
newsgroup to discuss what is really intended in this group. If you step
back you'll find that less 'trolling' happends on this group.
Constant whining about different posts go against the charter in itself.
The newsgroup is still in it infancy and will only thrive if you stop
trying to control it!

Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing?
A: Top-posting.
Q: What is the most annoying thing on Usenet and in e-mail?

No. It is possible to recommend something without advertising it, but as
soon as *I* mention money, or post a link to an order form etc. *then* it
becomes an advert.

I'm sorry about that, but I have tried to make it clear.

Again
But as I have repeatedly said, removing the words "to order your copy..."
would have changed the meaning of the entire message, rendering it a
recommendation and therefore acceptable.

I am merely seeking to ensure compliance with the charter. If you read
that as something else, I am sorry.

See above.

Ivor
PS it just occurred to me that adverts are permissible in signatures,
provided they are on topic and are 4 lines or less, sparated by the usual
2 dashes and a space. Don't know why I didn't think of that before..!

Thats rubbish! How many billboard adverts do you see without price,
website or a shop mentioned? They must be 'recommendations'!
