I ordered from a UK internet company www.broadbandstuff.co.uk a
SPA3000, which when I ordered it, the web site said they had stock,
but 2 days later, they emailed me to say "the order status has been
changed to awaiting delivery" bollocks. I immediatley asked for a
refund. When the refund hit my account it was 2.26€ short, and they
wont do anything about it.

If you ordered on a credit card then contact the company and insist on a
full refund. Don`t let them fob you off, accept nothing less than a full
refund from your credit card company, as it is effectively a fraudulent
transaction.

Im not sure I agree with you.. If you purchased the product with a Euro
Creditcard then, if the rate has changed, the returned amount might have
changed aswell... I bet as far as broadbandstuff goes they refunded the
full amount, only in Pounds. Would you have complained if the rate had
gone the other way? :-) Some times we win, some times we loose.

Remember that bureaux de change in the UK buy and sell at different rates
(=hidden commission). Sounds like it could be a similar principle here?
There is certainly commission included in the exchange rate when buying
stuff using a different currency on a UK card, so I assume it *could* be the
same issue. If this is the case you should see the same GBP amount quoted
on your statement for both transactions (together with the exchange rate
used).

Maybe the exchange rate changed between the time you got the quote and
the time you actually made the transaction?

Why shouldn't they?
If you don't like their business model, go somewhere else.

What principal would that be?
Foreign currency exchange rates vary continuously throughout the
trading day according to market conditions, and a quote is only valid
at the time it is given.

I brought a router from broadbandstuff.co.uk | Broadband Wireless Network, ADSL Modem Wireless Router on last friday and paid £5.50 for next business day delivery. It's now wednesday, and i haven't received, so i just phone them up to ask for them about it and they said the delay is because they don't have it in stock. It seems they regularly sell things when they don't have it in stock. Plus they won't refund pay next day delivery charge either. Fortunately I live in the uk so should have any problems with exchange rates.

Remember you also have the distance selling regulations to fall back on as
well. It doesn't cover postage IIRC but does give you the option of telling
them to stick it either before or after despatch.

I had the same experience recently and I seem to remember this being
commented on before. You are absolutely right. They should not be
charging for next day delivery when they are not getting anywhere near
that. I rang and complained that I hadn't received my item. They gave
some excuse and then it did get delivered but this was several days
after. Personally, I'd sooner pay less for postage and wait a little
longer. Amazon, for example, deliver free if you are prepared to wait.
I always factor the delivery costs, into what I am paying, so charging
for a service that they don't deliver upon does not bode well for
them, they could charge for a 'within x days' service instead.
They should state whether goods are, or are not, in stock.

I'm also having problems with broadbandstuff.co.uk. I ordered something from their website which was "in stock". They took the money from my card (nearly 250 pounds), charged me next day delivery then the next day announced the product was "out of stock". I patiently waited. Two weeks later having heard nothing I called them and was told that quite by coincidence the stock had "just arrived" that day and would be dispatched immediately. Nearly a week later the product had still not arrived, and, having heard nothing from them, and having paid for next day del, I called them again. They told me that quite by coincidence they were just about to ring the supplier that day, and would email me immediately after the call. Surprise surprise they didn't contact me. 24 hours later I called them again, to be told that, quite by coincidence (beginning to see a pattern here?) just as they were going to send the email the computer that was being used to compose the email locked up, so they didn't send it.
I am concerned that this company take large sums of money without having the goods in stock, and without knowing when stock will arrive, especially as they are so unforthcoming in their communication, and have such poor customer service. To be honest even if my order does arrive (bets anyone?), I would not order from them again.

I have always had good service from them.
Sounds like a bit of malicious propaganda from a competitor If you ask me.

Yes, I have seen a few postings in the same vein. Indeed, I ordered an
item myself, had to pay for next day delivery, which, I have to say is
extravagant - I am happy with 3 days. The item, again was delayed, not
so long but it was certainly NOT what I had paid for. It is bad
practice and is probably against trading rules.
Perhaps there isn't really a delay - they might charge for 'next day'
but only pay for 3 day - who knows!

The only reason I went for them and their expensive delivery is the fact
that they say on the Linksys Pap2T product page "If you want to connect
a normal BT phone to the Linksys PAP2T you will need RJ11 to BT
converters (1 per VOIP port)" and they were the only company I could
find with this in stock. Only to realize (Being a newbie) that it was
not necessary at all since all my phones (including an old 15 y.o. one)
have a RJ11 socket were I could plug directly the cable delivered with
the Pap2t.

I hope you all used credit cards.
First thought that went through my mind after reading the first few posts
was the company is going bust.

I did receive the goods (on time) and I did use my credit card.
Strangely, a few days after that (and it was the only time I used my
credit card on a website other than Airline (BMI) in months), my credit
card details were stolen and I started seeing a lot of fraudulent
transactions on my statement. Ok, it may be purely by chance, but I'm
still wondering.... I am very careful in terms of what I put in my bin
(shredded) and my computer security (virus/malware)...

Well, again it all depends on the company doesn't it.
In the same light my partner has bought stuff in person from John Lewis
department store thing and had appalling service, waited for ages while
people claimed to be going to get stock from the warehouse who never
returned, etc etc.
If you deal with people who are low paid employees who may be here one
day gone the next can you really expect good service?
Likewise, if you go mail-order with a long established family run
business where you can deal with one of 3 people two of whom are the
business partners the third being a long term consciouses employee you
will get exemplary service.
Don't forget... some big names in the mail order business are operated
from small friendly family shops... the sort of shops where people may
prefer to visit because they don't trust mail order!
Just a shame you are not looking for a new treadmill or gym equipment!

There are companies such as 'Empire Direct' and 'PC World' where you
can order and pay on line and then pick up from a local
warehouse/store.
I don't know if there are any that sell specialist telecoms devices
though or have a similar choice of products.

I frequently buy mail order, but don't bother with the worrying and
waiting. In the rare circumstance the company I tried to buy from break
the contract, I simply buy from elsewhere and politely explain to the
original company what they need to do to recompense me. One phone call,
limited follow-ups by letter if necessary. On the rare occasion they fail
to comply, I sue. Applying that procedure to buying on-line makes it so
easy, especially since it's so simple to sue on-line now: http://www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/o...mcol/index.htm
I've only had to use that final step once so far (Dixons Stores Group as
it happens) in what must be well over a hundred on-line purchases.
I find this a much better way of buying goods than all the inconvenience
involved in actually travelling to get them.
I can't understand why people bother with endless phone calls trying to
pursue a complaint - it's far too time consuming. Adopt the rule: 2
phone calls, 2 letters, then sue. It makes it so easy.

Strangely that also happened to me earlier this year, and I was
initially convinced it was the same supplier but it wasn't!
I had no idea exactly where the leak took place nor precise details of
the transactions but my computer is as secure as I can reasonably make
it and my details haven't been misused before or since. All discarded
receipts/statements are always shredded.
My credit card provider automatically stopped access to the account
after a series of around five fraudulent transactions in Italy and the
USA varying from single digit pounds and totaling about GBP 800 over a
weekend in January. I became aware of the fraud on the following
Tuesday when a transaction for about GBP15 was declined in a
supermarket and I called them to find out why. They had apparently
been trying to contact me by phone for a couple of days (I was away in
the middle of nowhere for the weekend)
I just checked and a legitimate transaction by me was processed at
broadbandbuyer.co.uk on the preceding Friday, nothing to do with
broadbandstuff.co.uk of course but it gets you thinking :)
