Which VoIP provider has the cheapest tariff and supports SIP?
I want to make cheap calls at any time of any day.
I use a Safecom SDSIP-3000 phone behind a Netgear DG834v2 ADSL router
firewall with NAT and SPI.
I've got an account with SIPGate, but they're only cheaper than TalkTalk
during the weekday daytime. No use after dark or on weekends.
I've got a VoIPCheap account too, but they don't give you a UK geographic
number like SIPGate, and although the calls are "free" to UK landlines any
time of any day, you have to pay a tenner and that times out after 120 days.
I haven't recharged my credit in months. Some strange new definition of free
I wasn't previously aware of!! ;-(
Do any other providers do any better than these two?
Sorry to have to ask...
....in fact does anyone do a comparison site for VoIP, similar to say
uswitch?

You have got a voipcheap.co.uk account then.
Have a look at voipcheap.com. Bizarrely they do include the UK in the
free destinations Actually you no longer lose any credit on either site,
but you do need to top-up every 120 days (co.uk) or 90 days (.com)
in order to qualify for free calls. I use-up the credit on uk mobile calls.

Thanks for that.
I've registered with voipcheap.com now.
Cost me ten euros.
Just one question...
....how do I get a voip-in number with them?

Well a SIP phone ain't much use if nobody can phone it!
That's almost (but not quite) as daft as Skype not supporting SIP at all.
Ah well, I'll just use up the credit nattering to wifey on her mobile and
then dump it.
Well at least I tried.

Does anyone EVER go back to these companies to buy credit a second time?
They must make all their money out of first time customers!
Shoddy way to do business if you ask me.

Does that Safecom support multiple accounts? If so
you could get a free geographic number from Sipgate.

Yes it does, and yes I already have - see previous posts in this thread.
You're a genius!
I'll keep the SIPGate account going for incoming, and get 90 days free with
VOIPCheap.com and 1p/min thereafter.

Wooo....
Sounds like me... anyone able to advise the current cheapest (genuine - not
expiring credit, or other non-genuine [e.g. vonage - not cheap! - people
provide this for less on a POTS line with all its substantially greater
costs involved - if they can do that vonage should be £2/3 or something /
somewhere around there / like that - or another provider should be able to
if vonage need to suck a higher profit level for their own preferred
business approach], etc.) all inclusive UK 24/7 landline calls VoIP package
provider?

I have a VoIP-In number with VoIPStunt. Yes I've credited my account
several times, as it works out at £1.80 per month for 1,200 mins of free
calls, plus that £1.80 can be used for chargeable calls. Plus the fact
I had over 15 months of free calling for the grand sum of €6 (Six Euro).
I know many others who top-up too.

Yes, that's what many people do who didn't manage to join in time to get
a VoIP-In number.
I paid 5 Euro to Voipbuster, and 12 E to Sipdiscount, but that's it, no more
!
200 mins on my mobile is more then enough for UK calls, and I don't need to
make enough International calls to use up
the credits, Sipgate will do me for that.
Regards,
Martin

I dumped mobile contract around 5 years ago, complete waste of money,
only use mobile in very rare circumstances, so a PAYG mobile is fine.
Therefore for me £1.80 per month for 1,200 mins and not losing that
£1.80 is a better deal.

I notice that no one has mentioned Vyke in this thread. Is anyone
using them? In a previous post it was pointed out that they do
2p/call to European destinations + the US.
The site does not, bizzarely, have connection details (sip server
etc.). Even more bizzarely, when I wrote to ask them for the details,
they said I had to join up first - looks like you have to be a member
of the secret Vyke club before you get to know the details.
I thought that they could be good for a friend who is considering voip
but I like to try these things out first myself.
Remove 'no_spam_' from email address.
25/10/2006:Symantec charge exactly as much in GB pounds as they do
in US$ for the same Norton DOWNLOAD.
It's goodbye Norton - hello free AVG until they stop ripping us off.
Why should we be ripped off in the UK?

Yes, I thought about that, but then decided against it.

Hi,
I am pleased someone else is interested in this service and finding out
about real world user experiences.
I too await the same... :) .
I can see no reason why it would be anything but good and as expected -
however real world experience and feedback is always valuable, helpful, etc.

Try www.onesuite.com.
Hi,
Thanks for replying.
Unfortunately, I cannot find any all inclusive UK 24/7 landline calls
packages at that suite / with that provider. Their rates seem rather
unimpressive as well - ~ 2 US cents per minute when the going rate is
something like that price for an unlimited length call! (or perhaps 25% of
that for a per minute rate).
Thanks anyhow...
The hunt goes on ... or perhaps such a provider (£2/3 per month for an all
inclusive UK landline 24/7 package) doesn't presently exist in the market...
:)
