Given their previous promotions of freeserve, perhaps it will be linked with
the freedom box (or whatever its called) from wanadoo. It has yet to have
its voip ports utilised.

Will it be as bad as Freeserve was?
How long will it take before they sell it to the French?

hmm, me thinks they are a little confused, converting an internet connection
to carry emails?!

Sorry, that was rubbish quoting etiquette. The quote was from the
independent article

Interesting, will it be a PC/softphone thing or will they allow the use of
ATA's..? Assuming it's SIP-based of course.

Ah, a monthly charge. That's that one out of the window then.

I bet that will be locked, so it is not able to be used on any other
network.

If you know what you are loooking for, then you can get things at good
prices.
The main advantage is that you got someone to kick if something goes
wrong.

Though if something does go wrong, it appears to be DSG's policy not to
do anything to until the very last stage of taking them to court. They
hope the customer will back away first. They provide store assistants
for those who like to vent their wrath on them, by kicking them, or
whatever - as long as it doesn't involve DSG handing back a single
penny. Rather than kicking the sales assistant, I advocate my approach:
set out in a letter a reasonable rememdy to the problem, then sue them
when they ignore it. (DSG = Dixons Stores Group who run outlets:
Dixons, Currys and PC World.)
The "poison" analogy is good. It has its uses; no reason to avoid it;
just take care when dealing with it.

I must admit, I have never had any problems with getting refunds or an
exchange from Currys, Dixons or P.C world.
I had a video recorder from Currys, after 11 months that went wrong, not
a single problem, I swopped it for a different model and got a refund
of the difference in price.
The same with my Humax, that went wrong after 8 months, they did not
have the same model so refunded me my money.
I have had hard drives I got from PC world that went wrong, exchange or
refund, no problem.
Only last week, my mate got a motherboard, it failed just after a few
hours, so he got an exchange, the same thing happend and then he got a
refund.
Now Comet is a different thing, they are a pain the neck and trying to
get them to exchange or a refund is almost impossible. A pity really as
I liked Comet, but I vowed to the manager that I will never step foot in
there again.
He was not happy that I went outside in the car park and shouted at the
top of my voice that comet did not give a crap about customer service
and that the manager was an asshole.
He got his security out to us, but after I told them, that the land I
was on was public and they could not do a sodding thing, they went back
inside.

Anyone remember just before Freeserve was launched?
At the time was paying F9 £10 a month for the priviledge of paying
local call rate to their Point Of Presence, at the time a daytime call
was more expensive, so trying to get connected just after 6 O`Clock was
hit and miss, ah nostaglgia, it aint what it used to be...
Then there was the outfit that bought advertising in every motorway
services toilet in the country, appropriate in the circumstances, that
offered a yearly internet access subscription with low cost dial up.
As the glue was still drying on that mob`s expensive posters, DSG
launched Freeserve, no subscription, just the calls internet access.
Lot who bought all the expensive advertising went round the u bend.
Rest of subscription charging providers had to change quickly, internet
access expanded fast. <aol> me too <\aol>
Nowadays cheap calls are coming out of our ears, dialer boxes, pin
codes, PAYG international calling cards, 1899.com etc. Monthly
subscription Voip just dosen`t have the instant money saving appeal
that Freeserve did.

The box is currently online at £19.95 including the first year's
rental. So box and a year's free calls to any UK landline, plus 2p a
minute to my daughter in Hong Kong. Set mine up today. You have to
have their box by the way, since to register you need the serial
number and MAC address from the box.

Not a bad deal then, but it's no good to me if I can't use my own
equipment. My Fritz!Box supports up to 10 accounts so I'd want to use
that.
