Dexter do let me know what happens, i am calling in personally to
Dixons first thing tomorrow morning to get my box.
I think sipgates days are numbered with this service from DSG ,god only
knows why anyone would touch a voip service with such a bad reputation
as sipgate from what i have been reading.
Good Luck with yoor FREETALK service, for £80 you cant grunble can you.

But Dixons being behind Freetalk do not help either. When Dixons first
started Freeserve it was a pretty good service, then after about 12
months it started to go downhill and have never recovered, even now
under Wannodoo it is a pile of crap.
Is Dixons going to do the same thing with Freetalk, give a good service
to start with, then let it go downhill and sell it to the French?
Dixons and good service should not be in the same sentence, unless it is
in the negative format.
The thing that worries me about this Freetalk is that you pay this £75
or what ever for the box and you are stuck with it for 12 months, then
after 12 months you are still stuck with it, because I doubt very much
it their adaptor can be used with any other VOIP supplier.
So if you want to go with another supplier, you got to start all over
again.
I still do not think VOIP is reliable enough, but I must admit that I
have been having thoughts of going for a VOIP service, but it won't be
freetalk, mainly due to paying a monthly subscription. I would not use
it enough to make it worth while.
But then if I am not going to use it that much, maybe I am better off
with my land line.

But it says in the key features on that page 'pay £79.99 for a years
subscription' so surely it's £26.99+£79.99=£106.98 for a year including the
hardware.

It's supposed to be that, if you search for freetalk on the dixons
website there are 3 things listed, one is the years rental and adaptor
upfront which is £79.99, one is the adaptor for £19.99 which requires
you to subscribe at £6.99 a month for a year, and one is a strange
mispriced version of the year up front deal priced at £19.99.

Sorry to disappoint but Key Features says "Pay £79.99 for a Year
Subscription" = check out the link again! £19.99 is for the adaptor

Damn, too late.. :)
It was a mispricing, should have been the monthly pack, but labeled as
yearly (which is £79.99).
The description of the monthly one still says free phone calls for a
year, but I doubt you will get it now the header has changed.

As far as I can see it has not changed it is still the 1yr package.

"No I went in our local Currys on Thusday evening and the box says
79.99 INCLUDING a full year of national and local calls now the 19.99
offer on the Dixon site says 19.99 including a full year of callls. "
there are two boxes, pay for a year (79.99) or pay monthly (19.99 then
monthly fee of 6.99)
In the first case after a year you start to pay the 6.99 as well (or
the prevailing monthly fee, whatever it may be).

Dexter is not Turtill, I happen to know who he is and he is definitely not
that person. I don't get on with Dex but I don't want to see him accused
of something he hasn't done.

It is a special offer which includes the first year for the 19.99.
I've just installed it. I'm willing to risk 20 quid to try the
technology out.

The £19.99 version has a monthly fee of £6.99
The £79.99 version includes a years worth of monthly fees.
that's what the leaflet in the shop said, and the Dixons web site has
the same (Model - FREETALK FREETALK
Product Code - 791701) as has the front of http://www.freetalk.co.uk/
I guess you'll find out in a month.

You won't need to wait a month, when you create your account it knows what
package you have purchased (presumably from the MAC). It clearly states on
my account I am on the yearly plan, even shows the blue box rather then the
green.

Exactly what I got, plus a message to say that my credit card would
not be charged until the next charging cycle. It looks like it was
either an opening offer which has now expired, or a mistake on Dixon's
part, whcich they have now corrected but are standing by.

The rates you refer to above are the mobile rates when calling from
Freetalk?
Are you using a provider that is significantly cheaper then this, can you
remind me what the equivalent BT to Mobile rates are for the various UK
mobile networks?
Both Vonage and Freetalk call are free to local and national geographic
numbers
The 15, 10, 5 refers to mobile rates and also applies to both.
Thus they are both considerably cheaper then BT
