Default Geographic numbers

I would like to set up a Canadian geographic number so friends can call
me and my family for the cost of a local (ish) call. Any recommendations
for a free (or very cheap) service?

Seems a lot of faff, unless you're going to use a canuk number for ringing
out. Why not get yourself a Voxalot/Sipbroker account and use the Sipbroker
access numbers?

Ah, perhaps I wasn't as clear as I could have been, I don't really need
a geographic number to ring out from, I just wanted one that could be
used to contact me for a local(ish) rate, so that looks ideal, thanks.

Onward and upward eh? Next mission, configuring my BT Voyager 220V
(Yeah, I'm cheap and don't mind spending time instead of money) for use
on my network, I believe you can change the SIP destination to the
internal ethernet port and configure your own SIP provider.

<wide beam> Oh, greetings to a fellow cheapskate! Perhaps you may already
have seen this, but if not, Jesus might be your friend:

Yes, I've been there, my 220V is already unlocked. Cheapskate, hmm, I
prefer to think of it as learning the hard way..

Doesn't even need to be a SipBroker account. Any open service like Ekiga
will also do the trick, and can also be used to terminate an IpKall
number.

SipBroker can call Ekiga using *673-XXXXXX (where XXXXXX is the 6-digit
alias to your username.)

The question was from a POTS connection.

My reply stands. Dial (for example) 01223 858747 then dial any
Sipbroker-routeable number. You don't need to register with SipBroker
for this.

Sorry, yes, correct, your *673 confused me, because the OP's question
was for a call-in number...
