Default Info pls: how to call Skype cheaply

Advice please. I'm a VOIP rookie.

==============================

Someone has asked me to contact them and has given me a choice of:
(a) Calling an 07017 number.
(b) Calling a Skype phone.

07017 calls are 35p a minute from my Virgin Media landline.

So I'm looking for a cheap way to call Skype.

==============================

I've never used any VOIP phone service before and, preferably, I would
like not to pay for credits which I may never use.

Can one of the specialists here advise me of a cheap way to call a
Skype number.

Thankyou.

You could simply refuse to call them. It seems that they're deliberately
making it hard for you to call, so why bother? Ask them why they're not
giving out a landline number?

If you want Skype, the start here:

http://www.skype.com/intl/en-gb/

You'll need a PC to run their software on and a cheap headset to plug
into the audio ports on your PC. About £1.99 from Tesco. That's good
enough to get you started.

The OP was wanting to use Skype to access a 'personal' number. These
can be very expensive to call. He wanted Skype to get a free call to
this number destination.
I can see why you are recommending Betamax as my first thought, when
anyone mentions Skype, is why bother with that? However, it does have
its occasional uses and, as an alternative access, this is one of
them.
