Hi, have my SPA3102 up and running, and have a question, first, here's
my setup: have a Sweex modem-router, with on one LAN port the SPA3102,
and on the SPA3102 my pc, POTS landline is also connectedon the SPA.
My question, with what service (web based?) or software can i be
reached/call at four ITSP accounts ? like Voipbuster, VoipCheap, etc..
wath is easily to configure (and free of charge) it's difficult to
choose from: like Asteriks, MySipSwitch, or Voxalot?
I now run Windows XP, but i get the impression, that i should switch
over to Linux, i did have some good experience with Linux in the past,
and i dislike the usual problems, like unstable, viri, and constant
"updates" for Windows from M$..:(

Centos i did not yet encounter, this is also software ?
Btw, i've installed Asteriks's win32 free version now,
not yet configured, but if i have a sound peak, or unplug the mike,
i get a whole story to hear from the "Asterix" instruction voice,
"thankyou for installing..."
Where do i place my SIP provider settings and routing details ?

Not quite, asterisk can run on any Linux-based system and some other OSs
(such as BSD-derived systems). Debian is an example of a Linux-based OS.

Trixbox is a PBX based on asterisk and designed to be easy to
configure/administer.

CentOS is a free version of Redhat Enterprise Linux, and is a Linux
distribution comparable to Debian, Fedora, SUSE etc.
So you could pick one of ( Debian, CentOS, RHEL, Fedora, SUSE, etc) and
one of ( asterisk, trixbox ) to put together your system.

Trixbox is the new name for Asterisk@Home
basically it's Asterisk with a web GUI
pure Asterisk is command-line programmed
My Asterisk box (actually Trixbox) is just that
a box.
Actually an old PC that just sits in the corner connected to
the LAN and the mains. No keyboard mouse or monitor.
The fact it is Linux based is neither here nor there, I
administer it via its web interface from a Windows
machine on my network (or even remotly via the internet
should I so wish) and if I need access to the console
I log in with an SSH client.
Voxalot is a free hosted Asterisk solution for your
outgoing providers, you do have to pay to register
your incoming providers. You only get very basic
features.

m$oft's WindowsXP, i've had it, with it, the more you ask of it, the
worse it gets..:( i've some good experiences with Linux distro's in the
past, i like where it says: everything is a file :)

It doesn't have to be an either/or choice; you can run a VMWare Player
version of Trixbox in Windows if you have sufficient CPU and RAM. Your
other choice is an old unwanted low-spec PC, of which there must be an
abundance now Vista is with us :-)

Yeah, but that's exactly what i mean, hardware demand goes up, if you
choose for Vista,(or just a new PC) you have to heavily arm yourself
against virus attacks, those clever guys want you to pay every year for
a subscribtion, okay, there are free versions, but i just noticed there
slipped some worms onto my pc, no i'll do it the other way round, i'll
install Linux, and will use Wine....
There are enough open source projects/software to fill in my needs,
some of the software i now use, are already Java based ones, ProjectX,
Freeguide, and others like VLC, DVDStyler are both available on Linux,
and M$win, and there's even a better choice of VoIP software for Linux....
You can choose your own GUI, Gnome KDE or the likes, or none at all, if
not needed, what more do i want :)
Security is tops, thanks to NSA's SE Linux, although it's not much of a
issue, compared to M$'win...

Just have my SPA3102 configured with MySIPSwitch, and this works great !
You can register your SIP providers there, when you have created a
account, and all will routed through MySIPSwitch to your ATA (SPA3102 in
my case) or SIP phone because you only have to register MySIPSwitch,
Only outbound CID doesn't work for me, but i've posted that, as a
request on their Forum, so i hope there will be worked on :)

Have outgoing CID now working, they have an article/Thread in their
Website's Forum called "Auth ID" under Feature Request topic,
the last post there, explanes it, a post of "Martin".
It comes down to adding <sip:0031xxxxxxxxx@sip.voipcheap.com>
to your MySIPSwitch dialplan in the end of the exten => line.
if the SIP provider in question, is letting you use it too.....
Does MySIPSwitch also have a special deal with VoipCheap (Betamax) about
multiple people calling from the same IP? This was an issue with people
using Voxalot as "SIP Switch", they ran out of those 300 minutes FUP pretty
quickly, because all Voxalot users appear to Betamax as coming from the same
IP. Betamax and Voxalot now together have set up some special mechanism to
pass on the source IP in the SIP-headers to Betamax, so the FUP is
determined based on that IP instead of the Voxalot-IP.

I guess this might be the case for VoipCheap's deal with Foxalot,
But with VoipBuster, through MySIPSwitch i have no problem, CID works
perfect, VoipCheap i use also but without the CID, but that doesn't
matter for me, i use that one to call GSM numbers..
The complete service of MySIPSwitch is for free, and i don't have prepay
on all SIP ITSP's only two for now, best of both worlds :)
