Lots of forums are now doing this with newsgroups.
It makes it look like they've got a lot of subscribers.
There was a problem with one of them doing this with
uk.d-i-y, as the forum software was completely breaking
the news threading. This was solved by many of the
newsgroup users adding a copyright notice and explicitly
forbidding the forum from using their articles.
Providing things like that breakage don't happen and
it's not being passed off as something it isn't, I don't
generally have any issues with it -- there's no reason
google should have exclusive rights to do this.
