Check your facts. I have never once said Sipgate are the best. I have said
that I find their service good, and yes I have defended them against
unfounded allegations, but I have never *once* used the word "best".

None of the providers are "best" not even your beloved Vonage. Each has
good and bad points which make each of them better for individuals.
Sipgate suits me, Vonage suits you. I have no problem with that, as I have
said. But you do not hear me slagging off Vonage at every opportunity,
despite the fact that I disagree strongly with their policy of locking
equipment and their high monthly charges (I won't say rental..!)

Now can we leave it there, please..?

Ivor

OK, a laugh might be the odd comment but the constant jibing by some
people, of Ivor, is just harassment. Let's call it a draw eh. He is
trying to help others in his own way. If he works for Sipgate then you
would not expect him to speak badly of them. He is not pretending to
be unbiased.

As I have repeatedly said, I *don't* work for them, although if they
offered me a job I might be tempted ;-)

I genuinely do not seem to have the problems that others here do. Apart
from the voicemail, which will be sorted, I'm sure.

If the pay is right?

I think a lot of the problem is that some people don't have any idea
what they are doing. I buy a lot of my computer products from Ebuyer,
because they are cheap and they seem to offer a good service. I read the
reviews from other people on the site, but some of the reviewers, just
don't have any idea. They say about problems they have had and to avoid
a certain product, but if I buy it, I gets it working.

For example, I got a cheap socket A PC chips motherboard, to build a
budget computer for my neighbours daughter. Most of the reviews said it
was rubbish and it had problems with stability and anything else you can
think off. One person even said he could not find anywhere to plug a
monitor in, it had an AGP slot for Christ sake and no on board graphics
was in the description. Anyway, I got the board, a chip and memory,
stuck it all together, loaded windows onto the computer and away it
went. No problems and it is still working strong after 12 months, with
only a minor problem with the bios thinking the chip was a AMd MP chip[
instead of a Sempron. I reset the bios and all was back to normal.

So maybe the problems people get with sipgate is because they got no
idea what they are doing. If they want something is easy, then they
should go with Vonage, as you take the router out of the box, plug it is
and that is all you do.

I know I went on a bit, but I am trying to get something over.

This is the hub of the problem. VoIP relies on a lot of user-configurable
equipment, and if the user fiddles or doesn't know how to set it up in the
first place, then they get problems. I'd guess that 90% of problems are
down to misconfiguration rather than network problems.

A lot of people blame the providers for this, but they can't be expected
to configure every user's equipment for them, if they haven't sold it in
the first place. All equipment that Sipgate sell comes pre-configured for
the user's account details, so it *should* work out of the box, but
sometimes the user doesn't understand the parts they *do* have to set,
like port forwarding etc. This definitely *isn't* the network's fault..!

But have people *never* had problems with Vonage..? I doubt it, and with
their equipment being locked you can't change things anyway.

Feel free, I also tend to go on when I'm on a mission ;-)

That is what it is all about.

That is also the same with the internet and networks.

I agree, and port forwarding can be a bit daunting for anyone to work
out. I am getting the hang of it now, as I got software that needs port
fowarding.

I expect some may have, as I have said, no service is flawless.

I goes on a bit too much sometimes.
