sip_reg_timeout: messages over and over again

I get

Oct 10 17:58:30 WARNING[9481]: chan_sip.c:694 retrans_pkt: Maximum retries\

(Critical Request)
Oct 10 17:58:44 NOTICE[9481]: chan_sip.c:4052 sip_reg_timeout: --\
Registration for 'xxxxxxx@sipgate.co.uk' timed out, trying again

over and over in my asterisk logs. Is it worth taking any notice of? It
doesn't seem to have any effect on connectivity in or out, that I've
noticed.

I saw this for a while also without any apparent effect on connectivity.
Putting 'qualify=no' in the sipgate section of my sip.conf got rid of the
messages.
