Default Sipgate issues

New to this so apologies for jumping in feet first.

Seems to me there are two sides to every story. I think Sipgate were wrong not to announce beforehand that they were going to restrict access, but I can understand (to a limited extent) their reasons for doing it.

I'm just rather annoyed at the moment that legitimate peering (Gradwell in particular) doesn't seem to be working, also I have a couple of IPKall US numbers that don't want to play with Sipgate any more!

Hope it's resolved soon.

I've stopped using Sipgate now because I rely on call forwarding. I'm now
with voiptalk.org

Call forwarding as such isn't really an issue for me. I do rely on my
IPKall number though, for my friends over there, I've temporarily
forwarded it to my FWD account, but I don't want to continue with this as
FWD is flaky at best with me, it's always on and off. Also I know a couple
of people on Gradwell who can't get through, but links with legitmate
peering partners is a different issue and should be resolved.

I agree with the OP though, they (Sipgate) should have announced this
before they did it.

Ivor

What have they done? Is it documented somewhere?

Call forwarding would be an issue for business people who have set up
contact points in different countries for their customers. Or a parent
who has been persuaded, perhaps by postings in this group, that it is a
convenient way to keep in touch with a daughter in an distant country.

Does Gradwell to Sipgate work for anyone? It would be a miracle if it
did.

And which hosts would be considered as legitmate for peering with? What
makes it a legitimate peer? How about myhost.mydomain.co.uk?

Brian.
