As a complete newbie to VOIP I thought I'd try a Sipgate account.
I've had no problems installing the Grandstream Budgetone 100 onto my
Draytek router.
My problem is that I cannot get the Sipgate website to debit my credit card
so that I can start to make outgoing calls. I've obtained a Security code by
dialling 10200. I've entered my credit card details correctly (trying three
different cards across three separate PCs in case it was a PC error at my
end). The credit cards are all perfectly valid etc.
All that happens after I submit my details is an error message on the
results page. This (so helpfully) tells me to 'Enter Valid Data' or 'Enter
Valid Security Code' and provides a 'Back' link.
So far as the security code goes, it's a four digit number. I've noticed,
however that the field on the website will accept up to six digits. Attempts
to preface the four digit code with 00 have had no effect on the error
messages.
I've e-mailed Sipgate about it, but reading some of the posts on here it
seems that I may have to wait for a week for them to reply.
All I want to do is give them some bl***y money!
If anybody knows of a fix or workaround I'd be grateful to hear it. I know I
could credit the account from my Bank Account (after a four day delay), but
the experience so far is making me wonder whether this is a company that
wants to be taken seriously!

Is the security code not the three digit number on the signature strip of
the card?

No, it's not the same thing (and it does ask for it elsewhere on the form).
The first time you credit (or attempt to credit!) the account you have to
call 10200 and an automated voice provides a four-digit security code.

Amazingly enough, Sipgate have solved the problem. They've removed the need
for a security number, so the card now goes through as on any normal online
payment facility.
The only problem is that now I think I've knackered my phone! I'll go away
and write out 'I must not fiddle with settings when things are working' 1000
times!

Don't believe everything Dex and Stefan tell you.
> All I want to do is give them some bl***y money!
This is a feature that has been added since I last credited my accounts,
so I can't comment from experience, but I will see if I can find out any
info. Incidentally, forgive me if I am stating the obvious, but you have
entered the 3 digit code from the signature strip on the card, haven't
you..? I have forgotten this on one or two occasions on other sites (not
Sipgate). The code from 10200 is definitely 4 digits though and shouldn't
need any digits prefixing it.
Another thing springs to mind is are you entering the card number with or
without spaces between the groups of 4 digits..? Some sites will accept
the number with or without spaces, others demand one or the other format,
so try both.

Like I said, don't believe everything you read on this or any other group.
Every website in existence has had problems from time to time, I know, I
have had to sort out one or two..!

talents are put to better use.

I don't get it, What's wrong with being a bus driver, it's an honest job
for an honest wage.
It's not as if he said that he committed insurance fraud for a living.
Having some problems with Sipgate myself at moment, unreliable geo-
number.
Email replies from Sipgate support have been in minutes generally,
though weekends are obviously important to them in Germany ;-)
Haven`t got to the bottom of the problem yet due to my not having the
time, not due to Sipgate support who have even attempted to phone me
back to discuss the problem.
No, I don`t have any financial interest in Sipgate and am disturbed at
the current lack of reliablity. Though the level of support given does
make me feel that perseverance is worthwhile, one hopes...

Can you give me a bit more information..? In what way unreliable..? I've
had three numbers for almost a year and no problems related directly to
the numbers, although there have obviously been problems elsewhere.

There you are, Stefan. Proof that what I say is correct. Apologies Adam
for using you as part of my dispute with these "gentlemen", I promise not
to do so again, but I had to make a point..!

The system has been very reliable here recently, what few problems there
have been, have been very quickly resolved. Although Dex and Stefan will
claim that this is due to my alleged "involvement" with them, of course
;-)

I'm sure you have had quick replies, and so have I, but the fact
remains that *all* their customers should normally receive replies
within a reasonable period of time. Its clear that there are
significant numbers of customers who Sipgate are failing to provide an
adequate level of service to, which is why we see so many complaints
about them here.

Of course they can be at fault, just not 100% of the time as you would
have people believe.
And you'll never agree that they've ever done anything right, so why you
keep going on about it is a mystery to me and a lot of other people.

After reading back through a few of his posts I get the sneaking
suspicion that just maybe the fact that they're German might have
something to do with it.
