Default Vonage

I am cancelling my NTL Line for which I pay 14.50 for all inclusive calls.

And am considering Vonage. Which I believe only costs 9.99/month with free
equipment. can anyone tell me if vonage will allow me to choose my own
number from a small range. I would like a good number that is identical to
my home number or with good digits.

You can choose an area code but not the actual number (IIRC). Bear in mind
you will need a phone (can be a mobile) to divert calls to if your network
is down.

Bear in mind if they did offer this, all the 'good' numbers will have gone.
The fact is _everyone_ wants a good number and there aren't that many to go
around.

Has anyone been successful in choosing their own number rather than only th
area code?

Can you divert your calls to a mobile? Is there a charge for this?

I got 8x8x8y as a lucky dip number. Might have to use that for
business calls.

Yes. Yes, - you pay the Vonage mobile rate for the leg from your vonage
number to the mobile.

One great feature of vonage is simulring - it rings several numbers and you
can pick up on any of them.

When I signed up, by chance I received "(023) 9200 XY00" and "(023)
9200 XY01". My guess is that I was the first Vonage customer to pick
Portsmouth for my area code.

Adrian.

I have had a quick play with Freetalk today.

Too early to comment on Audio but Vonage ought to be better on the highest
bandwidth setting (90kps) unless they are using some inefficient CODEC?

Have you noticed the CLI is in the full international format both incoming
and outgoing. If they want to make the service easy and seamless for your
average BT/NTL telephone user to migrate to then international formatted CLI
for UK local and national calls is going to confuse the hell out of them.
Some phones might also have a problem with recognising this.

Other then that very easy to setup.

Web interface and online management is a little amateurish compared to
Vonage.

Regards,

Paul
