Discuss VOIP (Voice over Internet Protocol). The technology used to transmit voice conversations over a data network using the Internet Protocol. Includes SIP, H.323 and IAX
For use in my home because I'm running over my 1,000 minutes on my monthly cell phone plan. Old phone, old AT&T plan, but can't afford to upgrade and don't want to commit to a 2 year contract. Too expensive to break that contract if I had to. So I'm considering VOIP to supplement my cell phone.
Magic Jack is cheaper of these two but I hear it has almost no tech support.
I have internet connection thru Charter with just their basic broadband. Will one of these 2 work better on this broadband?
If I connect either of these directly to the Netgear router/modem provided by Charter, will they work? Will this connection save me money by me not leaving my computer turned on all the time?
Will both of these work with Windown 7 or do I have to connect it to my Vista desktop?
I've heard if your computer hibernates then your incoming calls go directly to voicemail inbox. So how do I change the settings so the computer does not hibernate?
Thanks for any input to help me decide which to buy.
Becky
I would check if your router and modem will work with your service provider first before buying a Nettalk Duo II. All 3 can cause the Nettalk to not work right. I just bought Netalk Duo II and I have a Motorola Surfboard SB 5101 Modem a Cisco / Lynksys E1200 Router and Cox Cable Internet. It disconnects or I have to unplug the power to the Nettalk every 24 hours. Is there anyone that might know how to fix this ?
