Default Going to Cyprus: going hi tech

Retiring to a house in Nicosia. Broadband and a 4m+ sat dish will make life easier for two English Speakers.

VOIP phones will parallel the land line for UK phone calls. I have a couple of Sipgate accounts I have used before in Germany - German telecoms are eccentric, so I was using the router provided by D Telecom ans a pair of German DECTs.

I have a couple of Wireless Routers (and a cable job) - that's what happens when you are always moving!

The Sipgate accounts are still active, so I will take with me a pair of Siemens dual standard DECTs

Sipgate's best offer seems to be

Gigaset A580 IP

and

A58H - Additional handset

Is it worth going for a more expensive model? Can anyone recommend other suppliers?

On retirement, I will need to purchase a mobile phone (shock - horror). A`pay as you go Cypriot account will be all I need, but if I get a suitable handset I can used that too for VOIP. I expect if you are cheeky you can sit down in coffee shop or tavern with free internet and phone home!

This seems the cheapest

sipgate.co.uk - free phone service over your broadband link - voice over ip provider

any comments?

Will the Mobile/VOIP phone work with the home DECTs without interference, becuase I guess they will be independently loging on via the router?

Although another part of the hi tech strategy includes Squeezeboxes for Internet Radio, and if I choose a more expensive smartphone it would act as a Squeezebox controller and a portable music player.

Any more comments?

The cost of telephony will be insignificant compared to the cost of a 4.3 metre sat dish, but every little helps.

The wisdom of any guru would be welcome, and if someone has knowledge of Cyprus, even better.

Will that do for a first post?
