How much bandwidth VoIP needs

I am having frequent problems with my VoIP phone service. When I asked my VoIP service provider, he told that I should have more bandwidth. I want to know what are the minimum bandwidth requirements for VoIP.

And if you are still not been able to figure out then you need to look at your phone specifications to see if it is compatible with the bandwidth that you have or not.
