Default Access Point Configuration

HI EVERYONE,

would you like to help me?

I am trying to connect two buildings wirelessly which are 200 metres apart from each other.
I have bought 2 DWL-2100AP, 2 ANT24-0800.

According to manufacturer of Antenna that it will covers the area upto 1 km but when I am try to connect my laptop with any of the AP from remote location it not detecting AP singals.

I have never ever done this before and I am not sure how we can configure our two APS also.

Thanks in advance to everyone.

u need to configure one access point as a root bridge and the other one as the non-root bridge, and use same SSID's for both, i recommend using some kind of MAC authentication to avois rouge access points to associate with it. Also make sure radio is enabled, even though ur Laptop transmitter may not be able to receive the radio signals at the point mentioned, the point to point link might actually work, as the laptop transmitter has very low power rating.

Manufacturers never quote the range of an antenna as they do not know the eqpt. you are connecting it to or the environment in which it is going to be used.

How far from the external antenna will your AP's be. You will have to connect them by coax cable and this will attenuate the output from the AP so you need to take this into account and keep the distance as short as possible.
Will the antennas have Line of Sight(LOS) of each other or are there any obstructions in the way? If there are any obstructions can you raise the antennas to give them LOS?
Try and keep the antennas at the same height or if this is not possible you may have to tilt the higher one down, the antennas only have a 15 degree vertical beamwidth.

If you just wish to bridge the 2 DWL-2100AP's then using the basic WDS configuration will work.
What are the AP's going to be connected to in the buildings? routers, switches or single computers. If the second building only has a single computer to connect then you can leave the 1st AP as a normal AP and have the 2nd AP in AP Client mode to connect to the single computer.

What type of coax?
Use this calculator to find the attenuation you will get Attenuation & Power Handling Calculator
