Question [Belkin] Switching to OpenSource Firmware

I have a Belkin54G Router. (Model No. F5D7231-4) and want to swich to an OpenSource firmware. In my case: DD-WRT (www.dd-wrt.com) as its compatible with my router.

I downloaded the correct firmware for my router from the downloads section, but when I use the Firmware Upgrade feature, I get the following error message:

Firmware update terminated due to insufficient resources. Upgrade failed.

How do I do the upgrade..?

The initial flash is done using Tftp flash as per the instructions on the DD-WRT website.

Well, its said that Tftp should be used it the router does not have an Upgrade firmware option. If it has, then the option has to be used from the WebUI.

Anyways, I tried Tftp from my Mac also. (Default Router IP: 192.168.2.1)

Terminal Command:: echo "put dd-wrt.v23_generic.bin" | tftp -e 192.168.2.1

Result: Tftp> Transfer timed out.

The supported devices table only mentions the initial flash is done using tftp, can you provide a link where it says the belkin's initial flash can be done using the web Gui.
The firmware version is now at v24.

I have not tried a DD-WRT flash using a Mac so I can't really help.
Do you have a firewall running and did you disable it before trying tftp?
I used WinXP the last time and it took several attempts to get the tftp process to work and timing was critical from the first ping response.

Ok. I will install XP on my Mac using BootCamp and try it with XP. Can you tell me which file did you use for this. The Generic, Wrt54g, Wrt54gs, etc. and also the version- Mini/Standard. Thanks.

I will try it with XP and report back....

I don't know which version of the F5D7231-4 you have but I used this

Without knowing if the chipset and RAM are the same as the V2000 it's impossible to say which version of DD-WRT to try. The photo's on the FCC website show that it is a Broadcom chip but the type number has been obscured. I noticed you have posted on the DD-WRT forums so possibly someone there has found a version that works with that router

Well, the RAM is the same ( 8 MB ) and Flash ( 2 MB ) but I am not sure about the chipset (Dont know how to find out). But most probabily its Broadcom 5352.
And here's the FCC ID: K7SF5D7231C (In case if it helps).

Also, let me know if some other OpenSource firmware works for my router like: Tomato, FreeWRT or X-WRT.

Thanks.

I also have the same router. I've been having some issues with the NAT or DNS table overloading and would like to try some Open Source firmware, has anyone been successful on this router?
