Default Bluetooth vs 2.4ghz cordless?

Ok so in order to understand wireless periphals, like keyboards mouse, keypads and stuff,i have a quesion.I see that some of them use bluetooth technolgy and require an bluetooth adapter, while some other require a 2.4 receiver...

I know that bluetooth operates on the 2.4 band frequency,so what's the diferrence between bluetooth and 2.4 ghz wireless technology?

For example here's a product that supposedly uses this 2.4 ghz cordelss technolgy

http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/no.../3075&cl=au,en

My question is how does this differ from bluetooth?Which IEEE 802 specification does it apply under?

Bluetooth operates from 2402-2480 MHz and that Logitech device operates from 2402-2479 MHz.

Well thanx for your reply, but i dont know how to make use of that information. What's the signifance of not operating on 2480?

Other than that whats the difference btween these two tecnhologies? If you have the keypad featred on the link will you not be able to use it on a bluetooth receiver?Just because the bluetooth operates on 1mhz above!

I mean the practical question is if and how can you use these devices interchangable?Cause i want to use some wireless logitech and whatnot producst, and some are bluetoth and some other are this 2.4 technology, and for this reason i appear to be in a pickle.

The whole point of having a standard is that devices that meet that standard should work together and if they don't meet the standard they either don't work together at all or they may work intermittently. Bluetooth devices are not expected to work with non Bluetooth devices.
I don't have an operational description of the logitech device but it has 78 Channels to hop through as opposed to the 79 of Bluetooth and there would probably be times when the the Bluetooth device would be on Ch 79 and not be seen by the logitech device.

its not only logitech, certain microsoft hid seem to use this specification as well, and it doesnt semm to have a name.Except if 2.4 cordless is the name specification. It may look like some random wireless technology but it isnt.

As i said i'm asking cause i need some mice, and keyboards to work with and some stuff use bluetooth and other this other strange technology,so i guess i should hav both this receivers?

Is there any mod process so that i can use the other devices with bluetooth receiver as well?I dont need to fill my pc with receivers, but i do need to have wireless equipment. It's more efficient.

It doesn't have to have a name as it can be proprietary to the manufacturer as they provide the "external device" and the USB Transceiver as a package. As long as they conform to the Spectrum rules for that frequency band in the country they are selling the "package" it can work how they wish it to. This is not so with Bluetooth as they not only have to conform to those rules but also work with Bluetooth devices from different manufacturers.

I now understand your what you're saying.

But the basic questions are still kept unanswered. Will these proprietary devices work with anything else (I get that they're not obligate to,but could they?) or just the devices they're being shipped with?

Will a bluetooth transceiver work with these devices,or are they somehow locked to communicate only with the company's proprietary device?

-Will they be discovered by the transceiver when searching for devices?

A Bluetooth device will only recognise a Bluetooth device. See setting up connections.
Bluetooth - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The proprietary USB Transceivers may work with other external devices from the same manufacture providing those devices use the same communication protocols. Unless other manufacturers use those same protocols then it is unlikely that mixing the devices will work.

I just hope that having both of these transceivers, bluetooth and the logitech proprietary that is,wont cause any interference between one another.Do you have any input on that?

I guess this concludes this discussion.Your contribution has been very much appreciated.
