Default BT Adsl mega probs!!

Hi all, new to this malarky & need some help.
Tryin to setup my cousins wireless network on XP:-
1 pc hard wired to BT ADSL - works fine
as soon as i hard wire to netgear dg834g wireless router (previously supplied by Sky) internet loses connection
Been into settings & got into ip address config but still unable to setup
Only wireless user will be PS3 but need to get setup on pc first
Anyone give me a comprehensive checklist to go through to get this thing working please?
would tear my hair out if i had any!!
