can connect to printer through wired but cannot through wireless

I have a linksys befw11s4. hp c8180 all-in-one wireless printer. 1 wired system (xp). 1 wireless laptop (vista).

both wired and wireless computer can ping the printer ip address when printer is hardwired to the router. but cannot ping it when the same printer is using wireless connection to the router. my printer is assigned an ip address when connected either wired or wireless.

how can i get the printer to work wirelessly? it is connected wirelessly since i'm getting the right ip: 192.168.2.102. is there some setting on my router i need to change? thanks.

by the way, i have already disabled norton personal firewall. spy sweeper. antivirus and windows firewall.

Have you tried connecting in ad-hoc mode to eliminate the router from the equation?

If you set up your printer for wireless connection. Once it has connected to your network you then install the HP s/ware on your computer, does the computer find the printer when it does it's search?

1. WiFI will not work if you keep your ethernet cable connected.
2. Make sure you have installed the WiFi drivers from the installation CD.

1. i can get the hp wireless printer to be assigned an ip address by the router, but i CANNOT ping it, therefore the hp s/w installation won't work. it is unable to detect the printer.
2. #1 says that even if i did through the network (which i did) - it won't work.

1. yes sir, it won't work. i got the ethernet cable out.
2. am not able to install the drivers since the computer is not able to ping it.

thanks anyways guys, i suspected that the problem is with the router. therefore, i bought a new linksys router, the wrt series and got everything working just great.
