Default cant connect my main computer wirelessly

Hi all

Background - My desktop PC is currently connected via cable to the router, I have a second desktop (upsatirs) that connects via a TP-Link wireless adapter (US - my 2 laptops also connect wirelessly - no problems. Lately my internet connection (wired) keeps dropping out and the DL speeds ahve dropped by two thirds. I have contacted my ISP -done the filter thing etc etc and they say that i have a problem with my phone extension socket - this needs to be replaced (costly) So i decided to move my router to the main line and take the adapter from my 2nd PC and connect wirelessly - I have installed drivers so the adapter is all lit up and good to go - however on the five bar symbol in bottom tray it has a red cross through it - what happened on my other PCs was it found the wireless network - i input the SSID and away we go - not on my main PC - when i click on the 5 bar there is no wireless to choose - just broadband - i am using W7 64 bit - any idea how i can make my main pc "see" the wireless connection - FYI - the router is ca 5 ft away, no walls (the laptop i am writing this on is resting on my main desk - so i know its all working) - help!!

This is hard to debug from a distance, but I think you need to review the PROPERTIES of the wireless adapter. Perhaps you have set a fixed IP or perhaps DHCP is not established.

You need to check the PROPERTIES of the adapter by clicking the Network Icon (Network And Sharing Center in Windows 7, for example) in the Control Panel. As I said earlier, it's very difficult to describe exactly what you should do because of the different ways different versions of Windows display panels. Can you find someone near by who can actually sit at your computer and check these issues? The only other way to do this is to allow someone remote control of your computer - and since you can't get an internet connection on it that isn't possible.
