Default Close Router in a Box connected to a NAS

Hi,

I need some help to address 2 questions.
I want to connect a NAS, like the SimpleStorage, and I want at some point close the Splitter+Router+NAS in a box fixed to the wall.
I have a NetGear DG834GTB.

a - The box will need cooling/breathing vents, but will it limit the signal if made of metal?

b - I have some hard time determining if the commercially available NAS holding 1 HDD (maxtor, buffalo, simplestorage) which do not need clients to use a specific drivers, will be able to have its SMB/CIFS share visible to my XBOX console?

thanks

norbs

Depending on what sort of metal it would affect the signal if the antenna was to be inside the box. I would try and mount the antenna on the outside of the box to get the best signal.

I use a buffalo NAS here and the SMB share would be accessable to anything that can use SMB.

thanks for the FB
Are you using a Bullafo LinkStation Network Storage Center, the white ones with an USB on the front and on the back?
It is a finalist in my shopping list but I am uncertain about that device as it has an active cooling fan which would cause some extra noise.

yea, i'm using that one, it's not wonderful and I probably wouldn't use it again. The main reason is it uses it's own disk format, so if for some reason the unit dies you can't just plug it into a pc and grab all the data
