Question Connect Wireless Camera and PDA w/ Access Point??

Hello!

I am building an autonomus robot that I want to be able to take control of remotely over a WiFi connection. A Pocket PC on the robot equiped with a Wireless adapter will be used to recieve transmission from a laptop. A wireless Camera on the robot will be used to transmit video back to a laptop computer. The laptop in turn will be used to transmit commands.

What I need to know is, since an internet connection is not needed for this application, can I use a wireless access point, connected to the laptop, to send and receive between the Pocket PC, camera and laptop? Or must I use a router? Hope that made sense!

Thank you for your help! It is greatly appreciated!!

Use an access point, that is exactly what they are designed to do. If the cards permit you should even be able to establish an ad-hoc connection directly between the Pocket PC and laptop. Worth a try (much cheaper!) but if you have problems it might be easier to grab an AP.

I thought about using adhoc mode but I wasn't sure if I could recieve BOTH the Pocket PC signal AND the wireless cam signal in adhoc. I figured with an access point connected to the laptop I could easily receive both signals. I'm trying to make the remote laptop control station COMPLETELY mobile (like carry it around in a backpack system). An access point draws less than half the volts that a full router does. Which is important when you are trying to come up with a portable battery system!
